Siang Pin Seafood by Leng

When you are hungry, tired and want some comfort food, this restaurant will be a blessing to the tastebuds! This is exactly how I felt one rainy Sunday night. This business has been operating for quite some time now but this is my first visit. My family have even been here on quite a number of occassions so it's puzzling how come this is the first I've heard of this place.

The environment is exactly what you'd expect for a typical chu char (stir fried in Hokkien) restaurant. Shorts and slippers is totally what is expected here!!! The service is friendly and the waitress is very good at recommending dishes consisting of fish, crab, vege, chicken. This is unlike (ahem!) some of the other more expensive places we have been to.

Here's what we ordered that night.

Soft shell crab with salted egg yolk
(seems like this is the "in" dish to order in the past few years?)

Stir fried veges with fu-chok (dried bean curd)

Curry fish
(Oh! Look at those fresh pieces of fish! I can have an entire plate of rice with just the fragrant curry sauce!)

Stir fried petai (nicknamed stink bean) with sambal
(Shaky hands, hunger does that to you sometimes. Ha!)

Claypot chicken with Chinese herbs and shark fin
(for those who are against eating shark fin, don't worry, there ain't much of it in this claypot as you can tell from the picture!) Actually this dish doesn't even need to have any shark fin in it, since the strong-ish smell of the Chinese herbs would cover any taste of it)

All in all, my tummy was very satisfied after finishing the meal. The prices are comparable to other similar places in Penang. The chicken claypot with shark fin did not cost a bomb as I originally thought. Just a fancy name for a wholesome dish.

  2. Hi Jessen,

You really have to order the soft shell crab with salted egg yolk. So creamy, one of my favourite dish for the night!

Tell us what you think of the place, ok?
