Ko-Fu-Loft, Gurney Plaza by GNEB

See what The Food Loft in Gurney Plaza has turned into…..Ko-Fu-Loft!

I saw a big banner hung in the middle of Gurney Plaza old wing that advertises dim sum at Ko-Fu-Loft and decided to give it a try.

Ko-Fu-Loft is located at the exact spot where the old Food Loft was, on the 4th floor of Gurney Plaza old wing. This is a really good spot as you can enjoy the sea view while you dine. Somehow the place just didn’t bring much luck to the several restaurants which operated there previously. All of them have since closed down.

Ko-Fu-Loft serves mainly Chinese food. It also serves dim sum and is one of the only 2 restaurants that serve dim sum in the mall (the other one is Xuan Xin). Ko-Fu-Loft nevertheless opens its door earlier than Xuan Xi and that has captured some of the early birds to the mall to eat at the restaurant.

Food was just normal, like what you get in some of the mediocre dim sum restaurants out there. It’s just that Ko-Fu-Loft is after all located inside of the Gurney Plaza and that you get the convenience of having your breakfast there and heading for shopping straight after. You also get an excellent view of Gurney Drive while you partake your breakfast on a lovely and sunny Sunday morning (that makes you feel life is after all so good  )

Fried Seafood Emperor Noodle (RM12.90). This is a bit salty though..

Har Kau (RM5.50). One of the prawns tasted a bit funny…

Prawn Siew Mai (RM5.50)

Lor Mai Kai (RM4.00) – this is ok, not bad!

BBQ Pork Bun / Char Siew Pao (RM4.00) – this is ok too.

Fried Carrot Cake (RM5.00) – I thought this was done in “koay kak’s” style (a kind of local dish where carrot cake is fried with egg and bean sprouts), but apparently was not. A bit oily though…

Jasmine Tea (minimum 2 pax @ RM3 each) – Not sure why there must be a limit to the number of pax.. I think it’s worth the money as after all the oily food; tea is actually the best thing! Hmmm…what do the tea leaves say about my fortune?

My Scores:
Taste: ☺☺(so-so, nothing special)
Environment: ☺☺☺ (while it has a nice view, it’s a bit warm though)
Service: ☺☺☺☺(not bad, generally friendly)
Price: ☺☺☺
Parking: ☺☺☺☺(it depends on what time you go. If like me who goes early, plenty of spaces in Gurney’s car park)
Address: 4th Floor, Gurney Plaza (Old Wing) – where Food Loft was previously

  2. You mean those with shaved ice - like ice kacang with mango syrup and mango pieces? If yes, you can find it in Sugar Dynasty dessert restuarant in Nagore Road (behind New World Park)..I think nothing beats the one in Hui Lao Shan in Hong Kong though. Hope they open a franchise in Penang one day :)
